Sayonara Syesha! - Thursday, 15 May 2008 4:52 EDT
After some deliberation (some footage of the contestants at home and a summary of their journeys so far), we finally got to the elimination.  Not surprisingly Syesha was eliminated, leaving the final for a batte of the Davids!  Sorry to see Syesha go, but she was up against some pretty talented competition.  So it will be an interesting finale to Idol 08 - young vs old, ballad vs rock, cute vs cool!!  Just to generalize a little!  Have you planned your Idol party?!  Got a wager on the final result?  No time to waste!  Get organized now & we'll see you for the  David vs David  American Idol final!

The week - pick who you think will WIN!

Final Three Perform! - Wednesday, 14 May 2008 8:58 EDT
Seems so sudden that we are down to three!  Is anyone else a little suprised that David & David & Syesha are THE top 3 American pop singers of 2008?  That said - a quick review of the evening's performances.  Each singer had 3 songs to sing - 1 song of his or her own choice, 1 judges' choice and 1 producers' choice.  This gave each singer a good opportunity to showcase themselves, although they didn't really shine across the board.  David A's best performance of the evening was the opening number "And So It Goes" (chosen by Paula).  It was a vintage Archuletta performance - showing off his vocal quality.  David A's second song (his own choice) was "With You" and was solid, but not perfect.  His third song (producer's choice) was "Longer", a slow ballad done nicely, although Simon thought it was a bit 'gooey'!  Interesting critique!  Syesha's first song was "I Aint Got You", chosen by Randy.  She was stunning and did this song justice.  Her next song was "Fever" (her own choice).  Syesha really stepped up her stage performance for this 'hot' number!  The third song (producer's choice) was "Hit Me Up".  The judges were not sold and commented on the song choice, like she had a choice!!!  David Cooke produced some solid performances tonight .  His first song was "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" - an inspired choice by Simon.  I loved it, not least because I remember the original version!   Next was "Dare You to Move" (his choice) with acoustic guitar, nicely done.  But not special.  David C's final song (producers choice) was "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing", which was solid.  At the end of the show I have mixed feelings!  Each performer has his and her strengths & weaknesses.  There are no 'shoe-ins' as far as I can see...just depends on the Idol voters from here on!  See you tomorrow for THE elimination show of the season.  WHO will be in the final two??

Jason's Lucky Streak Ends! - Thursday, 08 May 2008 20:56 EDT

It had to happen.  We knew it.  The judges knew it.  And finally Jason knew it.  He was eliminated this round, leaving Syesha and the Davids to fight it out for the big prize!  What will happen next week?  I am more and more impressed by Syesha...can she make it to the final two?  Will David C shave or stay shaggy?  And will David A's angelic voice prevail?...  I can't wait for more Idol entertainment!  See you next week for answers to these questons and many more!

Song Choices People! - Wednesday, 07 May 2008 7:10 EDT
The final four sang two songs each tonight.  All I can say is "Song Choice People"!  and "What was Jason Thinking??"  David C opened the show with "Hungry Like A Wolf".  It was not particularly engaging and didn't go down well with the judges.  His second song was "Teenage Wasteland" and was done well -- a really solid rock song. I have to say I didn't like his unshaven, shaggy look that much tonight - I think he is trying too hard for the rock look.  Syesha's first song was a Tina Turner classic and was stunning!  The wardrobe department has been paying attention and she wore a fabulous gold shift dress that really completed her performance.  Syesha's second song was a Sam Cooke classic that was done beautifully.  Unfortunately Randy didn't like it.  Paula and Simon loved it and Syesha got teary because it was so meaningful to her.  A genuine moment.  Jason stuck to the "Bobs" - Bob Marley and Bob Dylan.  And did neither of them justice really.  He also made THE faux pas of forgetting the words to "Hey Mr Tambourine Man".  Big mistake.  Simon summed it up by saying "Pack Your Bags".  I think Simon might be right.  Finally David A. brought his A game, so to speak!  His first song was "Stand By Me".  A perfect song choice, done really well.  David A's second song was THE classic Elvis hit "Love Me Tender".  A very, very big risk to take.  But it paid off.  David did his own version that was true to the original, but brought his own touch.  There is something about David A's vocal quality that is so appealing.  The judges loved him tonight and Simon (again) summed it up with, "You didn't just beat the competition tonight, you crushed the competition".  Will the next elimination be as obvious as it seems??

Bye Bye Brooke! - Sunday, 04 May 2008 5:15 EDT
In case you missed it, Brooke was farewelled on Idol this week!  No big surprise there - it had to happen soon!  So now we are approaching the pointy-end of the competition!  What will Idol bring next week?  Will it be a show-down between David & David in the end?  Tune in next week to see!

Neil Diamond Night! - Wednesday, 30 April 2008 7:56 EDT
The final five contestants sang from Neil Diamond's song book tonight.  This was pretty cool in a retro kind of way I thought!  The show brought a full hour of entertainment with each Idol contestant singing two songs each.  Some were well known covers, others less so.  Highlights I thought were David A doing  an R&B version of "Sweet Caroline" and David C doing a cool acoustic "All I Really Need Is You". I know the Davids appeal to a completely different viewer, but I think they are both great performers with potential.  Jason C. did some sweet covers of "Forever in Blue Jeans" and "September Morn".  Unfortunately Simon thought they were 'forgettable'.  I just think it is because Jason keeps it simple.  That said, it does seem that Jason has not brought anything new in the last few weeks.  Syesha covered "Hello Again" and "Thank the Lord for the Night-time" very well.  She demonstrated her strong vocals and attractive stage presence.  She is securing her place for another week or two I suspect!  Finally Brooke did some beautiful covers, notably on "I Am, I Said".  Nothing over-the-top, but a good performance to keep her in the running.  What did you think?... Get your comments on our "BUZZ" section on the homepage here by writing on your group page!!  For elimination night you just have to pick ONE contestant to go for our game.  Good luck!

Change in voting: Only pick who will go! - Sunday, 27 April 2008 5:46 EDT
Idol threw a curve at us last week by only having a bottom two.  It always happens about this time in the competition, but usually when it gets down to 5 contestants.  Anyway, from here on in only pick who you think who will be voted off.  Based on who has gone the past couple weeks, that will prove difficult enough!

Carly Goes Home! - Friday, 25 April 2008 4:11 EDT
The bottom two this week were Syesha and Carly.  In the end Carly was eliminated.  I was a little surprised.  She has such a strong voice and can do almost anything vocally.  But I guess it shows that the public are not voting purely on voice, there is something more.  And unfortunately for Carly, she just didn't have it.  This leaves us with only 5 contestants!  3 guys and 2 girls.  It is looking more and more likely that the final Idol will be a guy...but who knows, this show isn't always that predictable!  See you next week for more Idol entertainment!
